Award Lectures
Siegfried Symposium
The award is made biannually and consists of a gold medal, a bronze replica, and an honorarium of 10,000 CHF.
The general area of process chemistry drives much of the chemical industry but receives fewer than its share of highlights. The Siegfried company in conjunction with the University of Zurich wishes to reward scientists who have made important contributions to this essential branch of the
chemical enterprise. Scientists would have made outstanding contributions to Chemical Methods with an impact on Process Chemistry are eligible for consideration by the Siegfried Medal jury.
The Foundation for the Paul Karrer Lecture
The first Paul Karrer Lecture took place on the
occasion of the public celebration of Paul Karrer's 70th birthday on the
25th April, 1959 in the Auditorium of the University of Zurich. The
guest speaker and first recipient of the Paul Karrer Medal was Arthur
Stoll, a congenial colleague of Paul Karrer.
Between the first lecture and today there have been
more than forty years of exciting and pioneering development in the
field of organic chemistry and the thereby influenced related fields,
such as molecular biology and structural biochemistry. Evidence of these
developments is documented by the lectures of the recipients of the
Paul Karrer Medal who were chosen over the course of these 40 years.
Among the recipients are nine Nobel Prize winners for chemistry and for
medicine and they have represented nearly all important research
institutions of Europe and the USA.
Hofmann Symposium
The first Hofmann Symposium took place on the
occasion of Hofmann's 100th birthday at the Irchel Campus. The Organic
Chemistry Institute of the University of Zürich was proud to honor an
outstanding alumnus on the occasion of his centennial birthday.
Annual Symposia
Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Interdisciplinary Symposium
The inaugural Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Symposium
welcomes researchers from all branches of technical science to come
together to hear high level scientific presentations and enjoy a large
number of contributed posters.
Fráter Symposium
This symposium will provide the opportunity to recognize Georg Fráter's contributions to industrial research, and to honor an outstanding alumnus.
Doktorandentag
For many years, the Institute of Organic Chemistry has organized a day for PhD students to present their research projects. This day is also a great social event as all the students and professors from the institute meet there to talk about science and other various topics.
