Research Interests of Anthony Linden
When the demands of the busy service schedule permit, personal research interests are pursued. Some of the topics of particular interest are:
- Unusual structural properties involving geometry and symmetry.
- Hydrogen bonding in supramolecular chemistry and as a tool in crystal engineering.
- Taste-structure relationships of sugars (in collaboration with C.K. Lee, NUS, Singapore).
- Anion-cation and hydrogen bonding interactions in mercury-chloride, thallium-halide and gallium-chloride complexes (in collaboration with B.D. James, LaTrobe University, Australia and M.A. James, Mount St. Vincent University, Canada).
- Metal-ion binding in natural products.
- Structural and electronic properties of diazirines.
- Writing small computer programs for use in crystallography.
Fruitful collaborations have been established with a number of international
research groups and involve diverse projects. Some are listed above and other
major collaborations involve peptide precursor syntheses (C. Palomo & J. Vlillalgordo, Spain) and natural products (A.D. Wright, Germany, O. Sticher, ETH Zürich, I. Calis and C. Safak, Turkey).
Other occasional collaborations have been with groups from within Switzerland
and as far afield as Australia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland.
In addition, an industrial co-operation has been established with several Swiss pharmaceutical companies.
